In partnership with Australian Bloodstock we have purchased a gelding called Golden Crusader. He is a lightly raced UK maiden that has displayed genuine Melbourne/Sydney Saturday-class talent.
Mick and Michael both really like the look of this horse’s runs in England but are most excited as he is a prospect selected by Australian Bloodstock and we have agreed to do 45% of this horse with them.

It is no fluke that Australian Bloodstock have already won 12 x Group 1s, 15 x Group 2s, 21 x Group 3s and over $52million in prizemoney from predominantly interntional tried purchases…they do more research and data analysis than any other Australian purchaser! They have created their own database of sectionals and ratings and can thus rate performances using objective data to evaluate a horse’s true ability and assess their likelihood of success under Australia’s different conditions.
These previous Australian Bloodstock purchases will sound familiar:

  • Protectionist – Melbourne Cup
  • Mugatoo – All Star Mile
  • Tosen Stardom – Toorak Handicap, Emirates Handicap
  • Shraaoh – Sydney Cup
  • Mawingo – Doomben Cup

At Mick Price Racing, we purchased our first 2 horses with Australian Bloodstock late last year and we are even more confident in their approach to purchasing tried horses after seeing those two horses arrive and be trained in our system.
All horses bought by them are vetted and inspected extensively and what has arrived into our stables to date are beautiful, strong types which are good-boned, sound and very clean-winded.
We love this idea as essentially we are buying ready-made, talented racehorses who have had the benefit of a terrific grounding on the lush European training tracks and are ready to come and race for Australia’s world-class prizemoney.

Golden Crusader is by Epsom Derby hero Golden Horn; who has made a very decent start to his stud career with 7 x Stakes winners and a further 13 x Stakes Placegetters from just his first 2 crops.
His trainer Andrew Balding (whom I did work for whilst in the UK) is not known to be tough on his horses so given Golden Crusader’s age, his low number of starts and his spotless vet check – we’re very confident he has plenty of miles left on the clock.

The horse is expected to fly out to Melbourne in November and, all going well, we could expect him to make an Australian debut early in the new year.
