Damian Lane has confirmed two of his spring mounts as G1 contenders after snaring a treble at Caulfield on Saturday.
Hot on the heels of a return double at The Valley last weekend, Lane was seen at his best aboard restricted mare Vivianne before guiding two G1 hopefuls to success in the form of Amenable and Charm Stone.
While predicting Amenable could rise to the G1 challenge in either or both the Epsom Handicap and/or Toorak Handicaps this spring, he saved his ultimate praise for three-year-old filly Charm Stone after she returned with a dominant win in the G3 Quezette Stakes (1100m).
‘’Her closing speed between the 500 (metres) and the 100 was brilliant and then to be able to sustain that when she got challenge was really good,’’ Lane said.
‘’I really think she’s a little bit special this horse.
‘’She’s really grown into her frame. She was always a lovely filly from day dot but she started to put it together now.
‘’She’s pretty good. She’s always given us that sign.’’
Charm Stone, who could end up in a G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) this spring, shared the three-year-olds stakes honours on Saturday with the G3 Vain Stakes winner.
Lane’s winners were Vivianne ($9.50) in the BM84 (1100m), Amenable ($5f) in the BM84 (1400m) and Charm Stone (4f) in the Quezette (1100m).
