Mick Price was happy his filly I’mlovin’ya won the Redelva Stakes, but he was also second-guessing himself after the win wondering whether he should have waited a fortnight to produce her fresh in the Robert Sangster Stakes.
“I wish today was two weeks away,” Price said after the win on Racing.com.
“She goes well fresh and in two weeks’ time there’s the Sangster and I’ve got to get her home and back. We usually have a go at these races. I’ll have to tippy toe around her, but it’s still good to get another black-type win with her.”
Price said I’mlovin’ya had a couple of problems last spring, but he gave her a nice spell and she returned to work as a more mature, furnished filly.
Price trained her dam Loveyamadly also for her owners United Syndications.
Price has trained two Robert Sangster Stakes winners in his career, Bel Mer in 2009 and Secret Agenda in 2017.
I’mlovin’ya was ridden by Zac Spain, who was impressed with the style of her win.
“She’s a lovely filly. I galloped her on Tuesday morning and she gave me a great feel; very professional,”
Spain said he was confident during the race that she would win.
“I was happy to roll down to the fence with a lot of speed. She balanced up and I pushed the button and she took off,” he said.
I’mlovin’ya ($8.50) defeated Seven Veils ($18) by a length and three-quarters, with Press Down ($10) a nose away third.
